How to search for and start a plan?

The YouVersion Bible app offers hundreds of daily Reading Plans provided by a variety of ministries and organizations. You should be able to find one that is the right length, and has the focus that is right for you.

To use Reading Plans you need be signed-in to the app and have a good network connection. Plans are not currently available when offline.

There are two main ways to look for plans:

To Search for Reading Plans by Keyword:

  1. Hover over the buttons in the top left side of the screen, until you see the one that says Reading Plans.
  2. Click Reading Plans.
  3. When a list of plans displays, click on a plan to learn more about it.
  4. Click Start This Plan to add the plan to your My Plans list of active plans.
  5. On the My Plans page, tap a Plan to view today’s readings or click on All Plans to select another.

  1. Hover over the buttons in the top left side of the screen, until you see the one that says Reading Plans.
  2. Click on one of the categories (e.g. Tapping on DEVOTIONAL will show you dozens of devotionals) NOTE: There is also an advanced button that you can turn on in order to narrow your search by language and length of plan.
  3. When a list of plans displays, tap on a plan to learn more about it.
  4. Click Start Plan to add the plan to your My Plans list of active plans.
  5. On the My Plans page, tap a Plan to view today’s readings.

It is expected that you will Open your plans each day and do the suggested readings and check them off, to help you stay in God’s Word daily.

In normal daily operations, when you Click on your plan it will open to Today’s date,

  • You may want to use the left and right arrow keys to check if the prior day was completed.
  • When you click on a reading.. the commentary or bible page will open.
  • After you read a commentary page, click on NEXT.
  • After you read a bible passage, click on the next button to go to the next step.
  • In some plans the readings will get check marked automatically, but in some you have to click in the white box.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If you click on a Plan’s gear icon, it will take you to a Settings screen where you can:

  • Choose whether you want an email sent to remind you daily
  • Choose whether to receive reminders if you get behind in your reading
  • Use the Catch Me Up option (see the Catch Me Up topic at the support website)
  • Stop the Plan (Please note that when you stop a plan, you are unable to restart it from where you left off)

If you click on the “Month” view it will take you to a monthly calendar view where you can easily see which days have not been marked as read. A little blue dot below the date indicates that all readings on that day have not been checked off yet.

After you view a passage from your plan, the Bible App normally marks it as completed. You can also manually mark readings as complete by clicking on the box in front of the verse reference.

Using audio with a reading plan can be frustrating and is not recommended for 2 primary reasons:

  • Audio always starts playing on verse 1 of a chapter, whereas many reading plans reference a particular passage rather than a whole chapter.
  • Going back and forth from the plan to the Bible audio will increase your chances of “snags” that may require you to exit the app and reset the app.
