The YouVersion Bible App stores certain information locally on the device. This includes Bookmarks, Notes, Highlights, Plan readings, Preferences, and History. You will notice most of those things are synced to your YouVersion account as soon as you log in. If you create a bookmark (for example) while outside of connection range, the Bookmark will be stored inside the app. Once you re-establish a strong internet connection, the app will sync to the YouVersion servers. That means the Bookmark in our example would now be backed up to the server, and should also move to any other devices tied to that account. Any thing you can create while not connected to the internet will be stored in the apps internal memory until the server connection can be made.
When you confirm that you want to use the Refresh option, the app will erase the data save locally. This does not delete all the info that is stored on our servers. If you are connected to the internet when you Clear Data, you will not notice anything even happened, because the app will immediately begin repopulating it’s internal information from the servers. The reason we sometimes recommend the use of the Refresh feature, is because sometimes the information the app stores can be corrupted. Refreshing deletes the bad info, and downloads the correct information from the servers.
You can check and see what information is saved to your YouVersion account by logging into the YouVersion website at http://www.youversion.com and logging in. After you login you can check your bookmarks, notes, highlights, and reading plans to see that they are all there. All the information that you see associated with your account there will be restored after you use the Refresh feature.
When you are ready to use the Refresh option on your device,
1. Go to the dashboard or menu screen of the Bible app.
2. Scroll to the bottom and tap “Settings”.
3. At the very bottom of Settings, you will see “Refresh”.
4. As soon as you select Refresh, a pop-up will ask you to confirm that you do want to delete the local data. Tap the button to confirm you want to clear the data.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Refresh option wil not delete the offline versions of the bible you have downloaded. The Refresh option is supposed to be a quick painless feature, and depending on how many versions you have downloaded, or how fast your internet connection is, downloading all of them again could be a very painful operation.
